Closing weekend screening of Ashkan Sepahvand: Seeking for Story

On the closing weekend of Monica Sjöö: The Great Cosmic Mother, we are screening Ashkan Sepahvand’s film, Seeking for Story. The film will be screened every hour on the hour in the basement.

Seeking for Story is a film about how an archive embodies modes of encounter. The archive contains stories written by Ali Mirdrekvandi, a Luri peasant-labourer, and documents his unexpected friendship with John Hemming, a British lieutenant, during the Allied Occupation of Iran in WW2. Now in the Bodleian Libraries, the archive promises both a curse and a gift. Those who try to master it only find failure. Through a meeting with a scholar, dates with a dancer, and a ritual of performance, a subject seeks to transform history into mystery.

Ashkan Sepahvand is an artist and Dphil student at the Ruskin School of Art.
