Aged 16-18? Join our Young Creatives Socials

Interested in exploring your creative potential? Want to find out more about a career in the arts and meet other Young Creatives?

Join our free Thursday evening Young Creatives Socials for ages 16-18, to meet young people in the city, work with professional artists, and develop your creativity.

The sessions will take place on Thursday evenings from 4-6pm throughout the year, from 21 September – 14 December 2023. You are welcome to join whenever you can. You do not have to join all the sessions.

What to expect
Our Thursday Socials are part of Modern Art Oxford’s artist-led projects for young people. The Thursday evening sessions will run throughout the autumn and winter, focussing on developing your creative practice, building a portfolio, and exploring paths to exciting creative careers, in a fun and relaxed environment. You’ll work with professional artists and develop your artistic voice working collaboratively with other young artists in Oxfordshire.

No previous art experience necessary, just an open and curious mind. All sessions are free to attend.

Example sessions

Studio Session: Work to a curatorial brief set by professional artists, expand your artistic practice, gain new skills and create collaborative artworks.

Exhibition visit: Visit our current exhibition, and explore the keys themes and materials presented by the artist.

Portfolio building: Build your portfolio, get advice about sharing your artwork and develop your skills in how you talk and write about your work.

Careers: Meet the Modern Art Oxford team and discover different creative education and career opportunities.

“As cliché as it sounds, just have fun. Everyone is nervous at first but after a few sessions you’ll really feel that sense of community.” – Words of advice from a young artist who attends our regular Thursday sessions
