Cecily Brown (b. London, 1969) has been long celebrated for her large-scale paintings that explore flesh and sexuality through the visceral medium of thick oil paint. Inspired by the old masters and the traditions of the nude in art history, Brown pushes a painting until it nears abstraction, yet the resulting image remains hauntingly familiar.
