Join the Young Creatives Collective

24 July 2024

Interested in a career in the arts? Want to learn how to co-curate a programme and discover the secrets of running an arts organisation?

We are looking for 8 individuals between 16-18 to join our Young Creatives Collective.

Why be a part of the Young Creatives Collective?

Work with guest artists and the Modern Art Oxford team to co-curate a programme including a public event at the gallery.  Create digital content, design original merchandise for the gallery shop and extend your own creative practice while working towards a Gold Arts Award.

Other benefits include:

  • Experience of working with professional artists.
  • A materials budget for creative projects and events.
  • A Gold Arts Award funded by Modern Art Oxford.
  • Mentoring throughout the year from the Modern Art Oxford team.
  • Free admission to Modern Art Oxford’s paid exhibitions and events.
  • A travel bursary covering any off-site trips.
  • A travel bursary of £4 per person, per session, to subsidise your journey to and from the gallery.

No previous art experience necessary, just an open and curious mind.

How to Apply:

To apply, please send a short video or one  side of A4, explaining what you think being part of a collective is all about and why you would like to join the Young Creatives Collective. We’d love to learn more about you, so please do include information about your current interests, your ideas about gallery exhibitions and events, and what you hope to learn during your time as a Young Creative.

How to submit:

Please send your video (as a URL link, such as via Youtube, Vimeo or Soundcloud) or letter (saved as a Word document) as one attachment to Holly Broughton, Curator, Communities, Practice and Participation at creativelearning@modernartoxford.org.uk.

You can include up to 3 images with your submission. Please make sure these are in jpeg format, no larger than 0.5MB each, and saved as your name. If you would like any support with your application, please get in touch and we can help.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 9am on Wednesday, 6 November. We will get in touch with a decision by Friday, 25 October.

We are asking each applicant to commit to a period of 12 months, during which there will be 11 Saturday sessions and two public events. Sessions will start in October 2024 and run through August 2025.

Modern Art Oxford is committed to ensuring we have a public programme that reflects the diversity of our audiences, and we know that working with people from a range of backgrounds is vital for the work we do across our organisation.

For all opportunities at Modern Art Oxford, we particularly welcome hearing from members of the global majority and people with disabilities. Expressions of interest from these groups will be guaranteed a place on the shortlist.

It’s hugely important to us that everyone on the project feels fully supported and cared for. We understand that support means different things to everyone, and that everyone has individual needs. For this reason, this opportunity includes a 1:1 chat with a member of our team to answer any questions and help to ensure our spaces are as comfortable for you as possible. Please reach out if you’d like to chat with a member of our team.
