After Hours

After Hours is Modern Art Oxford’s programme for curious and creative people looking to deepen their engagement with contemporary art and culture.

Bringing together regular making sessions, book clubs and informal networking evenings, After Hours offers opportunities to connect with artists, writers, curators and like-minded people.

After Hours Book Club

If you’re someone who writes in the margins of books, keeps half-finished ideas in your Notes app, or finds yourself wanting more from your evenings than the TV or a scroll, the After Hours Book Club sessions are for you.

Our next After Hours Book Club welcomes artist Jeremy Millar, who will revisit the essay he wrote for Mike Nelson’s 2004 exhibition catalogue. With Nelson back at Modern Art Oxford, it’s a chance to explore the connections between the two exhibitions, discuss the ideas behind the work and share your own thoughts over a complimentary drink.

After Hours Connect are relaxed sessions for curious, creative people to meet, exchange ideas and build new connections. Each evening session brings together practical insight from the Modern Art Oxford Communities, Practice & Participation team with time to talk, share work and meet like-minded people. After Hours Studio sessions are practical workshops for curious, creative people looking to learn new techniques, explore ideas and develop their practice while meeting new people.

Our next session is Drawing with Dust, an experimental drawing class focussing on expression, gesture and large scale collaborative making. Inspired by Mike Nelson: Double Negative (The Clown), enjoy a tour of the exhibition and a complimentary drink.
