In an extension of their works presented in the Platform Graduate Award, Luca and Katrina create a space of sonic and subjective iridescence through layering recordings, live sound, and movements in a live performance.
Join us for a rare screening of two short films by Sara Gómez, Cuba’s first female director at the prestigious Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). Known for her intimate, relatable portrayals of everyday Cuban life during the Cuban Revolution, Gómez’s work provides a compelling lens on themes of identity, race, and social change.
En La Otra Isla (On The Other Island) | 1968 | 40 min
In this thought-provoking documentary, Gómez captures the voices of young residents on the Isle of Pines (now Isla de la Juventud), as they openly discuss life, revolution, and complex issues like racism and crime. Through her interviews, Gómez offers a window into the hopes and challenges of Cuban youth during a transformative era.
Guanabacoa: Crónicas de mi familia (Guanabacoa: Chronicles of My Family) | 1966 | 14 min
In this evocative short, Gómez returns to her family’s roots in Guanabacoa, a town near Havana. Interweaving personal anecdotes with the historical and social fabric of Cuba, this autobiographical film is a rich portrait of place, memory, and legacy – bringing the spirit of her family and heritage vibrantly to life.
Patterns is an underground music platform and event organiser created in Oxford in 2023 to allow local emerging talent to experiment with different sounds and genres in the same night. Their aim is to challenge traditional club night concepts, by merging a plurality of music genres in the same night, from dancehall to electro.
