As part of our ongoing showcase of contemporary crafts, the Modern Art Oxford shop presents Charlotte Storrs, a Dutch Potter based in Oxfordshire.
Storrs’ work consists of functional stoneware, pots, plates, and bowls designed to be used on a daily basis, all of which are oven and dishwasher proof, with the exception of pieces featuring akebia vine.
Storrs’ works are all wheel thrown in her garden studio, using what she describes as a ‘lovely, groggy, rustic clay’ which fires to 1,250 degrees. For decorating and finishing, Storrs has made ceramic patterned rollers and uses a simple, white glaze which is made for her in Ireland.
The ceramics produced have a simple, non-fussy appearance, allowing food to stand out against the white ceramic. A visit to Japan influenced Storrs to start using akebia vine in her work; beautiful, natural material of which no two strands are ever the same.
