About Jane Castree

Jane Castree is a choreographer and community dance artist working with movement to create open and accessible opportunities. Jane is interested in the concept of binary culture and its role in perpetuating discrimination, asking for audience participation and feedback. Her choreographic work invites people to consider ideas and concepts from alternative perspectives as a way to imagine a more open and flexible world.

Situated Ecologies

Jane Castree, a Creative in Residence at the gallery during the Boundary Encounters exhibition of 2023, will collaborate with Modern Art Oxford and Bullingdon Community Centre’s Silver Shakers, an inclusive group of people aged 50+ who enjoy coming together to dance, socialise and just have fun. Throughout the summer period, the regular group will work with Jane to explore community and place through movement and memory, culminating in a performance and intergenerational public workshop, in partnership with Thomas Page Dances Young Artists.
