The Board of Trustees of Modern Art Oxford is delighted to announce that Anna Yang has been appointed to succeed Dominic Loehnis, who steps down in February 2023 after over five years of service on and leadership of the gallery’s governing Council of Management.
Anna Yang brings considerable skills, knowledge and experience to the role of Chair, having been a member of the organisation’s Council of Management since 2016. Anna has worked as a litigation lawyer at Sullivan and Cromwell (NY) and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (London), and has been actively involved in the worlds of arts, culture and education over many years, supporting a wide range of organisations. She is a trustee of the Contemporary Art Society and Chair of its Finance Committee; is a member of the European Advisory Board of McGill University; and a governor of St Thomas Federation, a federation of three state schools in North Kensington.
As Chair, Anna will play a leading role at Modern Art Oxford, contributing to the ambition and resilience of the charity in a challenging environment, but with exciting plans ahead, and in doing so, safeguard its dynamic future for the audiences and artists it serves.
Anna Yang said, “It is an honour to become Chair of an organisation that I care so deeply about, and I look forward to working with the talented team to ensure that Modern Art Oxford continues to grow and flourish as one of the UK’s leading contemporary art spaces, and as a vital centre for learning and creativity for the diverse communities that it serves.”
Dominic Loehnis said, “It’s been a privilege to chair Modern Art Oxford, an extraordinary organisation whose amazing team put on world-class shows every year despite the budgetary challenges faced by all arts organisations. I am particularly proud of Modern Art Oxford’s ever closer focus on serving its local communities and on the way it responded to the pandemic. Anna has been leading the charge on making the gallery even more accessible and enjoyable to those local communities and under her energetic board stewardship, I am sure Modern Art Oxford will go on to even greater achievements. I’ve had the great pleasure of leading a brilliant collection of trustees who bring diverse skills and experiences but a shared belief in the power of the arts to improve lives and a willingness to commit their time, energy and financial support to the organisation.”
Paul Hobson, Modern Art Oxford’s Director said, “We are delighted to welcome Anna to the role of Chair of Trustees. Anna has provided significant support and advocacy since she joined the Board as a Trustee, and the team and I look forward to working with her to build on the excellence and ambition of the programme and to extend our work with local communities. Dom has been a dynamic, committed and inspirational Chair over the past five years, especially in strengthening our focus on underserved communities locally and in building on our partnerships in Oxford and more widely, and we are so indebted to him.”
