City as Studio is an artist-led project for young artists, run by lead artist Kate Mahony.
In 2021, participants aged 16-19 from across the UK joined artists Kate Mahony, Poppy Tibbets, and James Scott for online workshops to explore the DIY film-making process. Over week-long residencies, the groups created collaborative short films and soundtracks.
This short film showcases the experience and the young artists’ creative process.

Modern Art Oxford offers professional development opportunities for young people aged 16-21. Working with schools and partner organisations, we support a culture of learning and participation, providing a creative space for young people to map out pathways for their own artistic development in Oxford.
City as Studio is a professional development project for young artists. Working with individuals, schools and community organisations, the young artists produce original short art films in response to a curatorial brief. Workshops and week-long residencies develop skills in film-making and performance, and the professional presentation of creative works is encouraged by the gallery team.
