Citizen of the Universe: Art and Education Day
Join us at the gallery for an an all-day event of creative activities exploring arts education and celebrating the visionary artist, educator and activist Ruth Asawa.
Are you interested in discussing arts education? Do you have ideas for possible alternative approaches or collaborative methods?
Join guest speakers Emily Pringle (Head of Learning at Tate), writer, curator and editor Sophia Hao, and Modern Art Oxford’s Young Creatives for a day of workshops, activities and talks about current experiences of arts education. Across the day, re-imagine and explore future possibilities through alternative practices and collaborative pedagogies.
Participate in making activities inspired by artist and educator Ruth Asawa and hear our Young Creatives (aged 16-19) share their group manifesto for alternative arts education practice. Plus enjoy a tour of our exhibition Ruth Asawa: Citizen of the Universe.
Following the event, the building will reopen to the public for a celebratory continuation of the day’s activities. Stay on to enjoy drinks and refreshments from the bar and music from 4-7pm.
“Art will make people better, more highly skilled in thinking and improving whatever business one goes into, or whatever occupation. It makes a person broader.” – Ruth Asawa
