About Making Space Safe

The Making Space Safe artist collective brings together people referred by local organisations Sanctuary Hosting and Refugee Resource, who take part in our Making Space Safe art workshops led by associate artist Mary Chamberlain. Nature, Journeys is the first group exhibition by the collective at the gallery and is on display in the Creative Space from 5-21 November 2021.

This exhibition marks five years of the Making Space Safe project, and represents a new chapter for the group who have now become an art collective, with group members curating as well as creating their own work. The show features the most recent work by Touhida Akter, Che Yan, Bikiana, Souad Amine Khodja, Lubna Mahmoud, Ihsan, Mariam Latifi and Dilber Cacan.

The Making Space Safe art collective has been made possible through the Arts Council’s National Lottery Project Grants.
