Video: The Making of Cinthia Marcelle’s The Family in Disorder (2018)

Modern Art Oxford is thrilled to present The Family in Disorder: Truth or Dare, the first major UK solo exhibition by Cinthia Marcelle (b. 1974, Belo Horizonte, lives and works in São Paulo). Marcelle has transformed our vast Upper Gallery with a newly commissioned two-part installation, The Family in Disorder (2018), which reacts to the architecture of the gallery through two site-responsive structures made from materials that include brick, chalk, boxes of matches and feathers.

Over the course of a week, Marcelle has worked collectively with local artists and art technicians to disrupt, disassemble and reconfigure one of the structures, creating a mirror image of order and chaos across the two galleries, the result of which remains unknown until the exhibition’s public opening.

Witness the creative process behind the work in our new time-lapse video, which captures the team as they dramatically transform the Upper Gallery. Look out for the smoke grenades at the end!

The Family in Disorder: Truth or Dare, Cinthia Marcelle opens 10 March and runs until 27 May 2018.
