Partnership announcement: Modern Art Oxford and Oxford Brookes University

Modern Art Oxford is delighted to announce a new partnership with Oxford Brookes University’s School of Arts. This is an exciting next stage in our developing relationship with Oxford Brookes University, where our collaboration in recent years has offered opportunities for knowledge exchange, training and professional development for students and faculty staff.

‘This partnership strengthens Modern Art Oxford’s relationship with Oxford Brookes University and is founded on our shared goal to foster greater diversity and access to participation and employment in the sector through a range of developmental initiatives for the next generation of artists and creative professionals studying in the city.’ – Paul Hobson, Director of Modern Art Oxford

This autumn we will work together on a new group exhibition led by Modern Art Oxford Creative Associate, Laura Purseglove. The exhibition Flow runs from 4 September – 11 October and is curated by members of the Modern Art Oxford volunteer team. Designed to initiate interdisciplinary exchange, a local call-out to artists and practitioners solicits responses to the exhibition’s themes of ideas generation, the role of environment in fostering creativity and flow theory in creativity.

This partnership reflects the growth of our work together in establishing a professional internship scheme designed to offer students experience of working in the creative industries. Since 2019 we have offered Oxford Brookes students salaried placements within Modern Art Oxford’s Programming, Communications and Development departments. These internships are open to all students in Oxford Brookes University’s School of Art, with an emphasis on BAME students and those from low-income backgrounds, as a way to support equality of opportunity in workforce recruitment into the sector. Placements offer students access to world-class art programming along with hands-on experience working with the gallery’s team of arts administrators, curators, artists, producers and practitioners.

The partnership also hosts new and existing event collaborations including the Sonic Art Research Unit at Oxford Brookes University, which is at Modern Art Oxford once again to present Audiograft Festival, an evening of sound art and experimental composition now in its tenth year.
