Congratulations

We are thrilled to congratulate Bethany Mitchell, lead artist of Modern Art Oxford’s Early Years: Make Play workshops on winning a Marsh Award for Excellence in Gallery Education. These awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of arts professionals working within the sector of museum and gallery art education.

Alongside her current role as Curator of Inclusion at MK Gallery, Bethany has devised and delivered Modern Art Oxford’s increasingly popular Make Play sessions, designed to be enjoyed by the gallery’s youngest visitors and their parents/carers.

Bethany’s career in participation began nine years ago and has seen her work in various artist facilitator and programming roles, playing a role in the development of learning programmes here at Modern Art Oxford as our Creative Learning Assistant, as well as at Firstsite, Kettle’s Yard, Turner Contemporary and, most recently, MK Gallery.

Bethany plans to use her award to undertake a research trip to Sweden, to visit the Reggio Emilia Institutet in Stockholm, and the Byggleskplatsen ‘Building Playgroud’ in Biskopsgården.

In this video, Bethany Mitchell speaks about Make Play and the importance of art for early years:
